Hana Matsuri Festival at Tsuruma Park

Constructed in 1909. "Sakura" cherry blossom (PHOTO) time is early April. Japan Cherry Blossom Association selected Tsuruma Park as Top 100 of Japan.
When you ride a train, be careful; the name of the park sounds "tsuruma", but the name of the station you get off sounds "tsurumai".


Kyodo Rekishi Matsuri Festival

Started in 2001, and be held every April.
The highlight is "Suijo Musha" Samurai Parade by boat on Horikawa canal. Fukushima Masanori (PHOTO) excavated Horikawa canal for construction of Nagoya Castle.


Haruhime Dochu Wedding Parade

Started in 1995, and be held every April.
"Hade Kon" showy marriage customs originate in "Haru Hime" Princess wedding.


Yosakoi Yume Matsuri Festival


Started in 2007, and be held every May.
Yosakoi "Naruko" dancing.


Nagoya Music Days: Sakae Minami Music Festival


Started in 2007, and be held every May.
Over 100 musicians play and sing.


Arimatsu Shibori Matsuri Festival

Started in 1985, and be held every June.
"Shibori" is tie-dyeing fablic for kimono, yukata, etc. The highlight is "Dashi" float (PHOTO) with "Karakuri" mechanical dolls.


Minato Matsuri Nagoya Port Festival

Started in 1947, and be held every July.
The highlight is Hanabi Fireworks.


Osu Natsu Matsuri Festival

Kinsan Natsu Matsuri Festival


Started in 2010, and be held every August.
"Kinsan" means Nishiki 3-chome at Sakae.


Hirokoji Natsu Matsuri Festival

Started in 1951, and be held every August.
The highlights are "Shoryu" Flying Dragon Mikoshi Parade (PHOTO), Awa Odori Dance and "Uchimizu" Cool Down Heat.


"Domatsuri" Nippon Domannaka Matsuri Festival


Started in 1999, and be held every August.
"Domannaka" means the center of Japan. Over 200 dancing teams participate.


Nagoya Matsuri Festival

Started in 1955, and be held every October.
The highlight is Three Heroes Parade of Oda Nobunaga (PHOTO), Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu.


Osu Daido Chonin Matsuri Festival

Started in 1978, and be also held every October.
"Daido" means Street Performance. About 40 street performance teams participate. The highlight is Oiran Dochu Parade (PHOTO) which is the counterpart of Three Heroes Parade of Nagoya Matsuri Festival.


Choja-machi Yebisu Matsuri Festival


Started in 2001, and be held every October.
"Yebisu" is one of "Shichifukujin" the Seven Gods of Fortune.


Okuwa Matsuri Festival

Be held every 60 years.
Ise Jingu Shrine's "Sakaki" tree is a symbol of a good harvest.


Setsubun at Osu Kannon Temple

Traditional event all over Japan every early February, at Osu Kannon Temple (PHOTO) every February 3rd.
The highlight is "Mamemaki": Everybody chant "Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi!" while throwing soybeans.
